On September 21 we’re making history by creating the Largest Living Dollar Sign and we want you to be a part of the record-breaking moment! The festivities kick off at 5 pm and our world record attempt starts at 5:30 pm sharp.

Bring your friends, neighbours, cousins, grandparents—anyone and everyone—to this all ages event. Hang out with our host, Edmonton’s favourite chief meteorologist Josh Classen. Enjoy the music, take in the activities, enter to win giveaways and try some tasty dishes from some of Edmonton’s best food trucks.

We’re also giving away $5 in FREE  food truck bucks when you preregister on Eventbrite. And, for everyone who participates in the record, we’re also donating $1 to KidSport Edmonton, to help kids in our communities participate in their favourite sports. See you there!

On May 18 2015, Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg a German Savings bank built the world’s largest piggy bank—26 ft 4.3 in long and 18 ft 3.7 tall! It was so big that a crane had to be used just to drop the money in!

Join us for yoga in the park

Servus Circle Day Yoga in the Park

On June 20, we’re teaming up with the Breathing Room yoga studio in Red Deer, Alberta to host two lunchtime yoga sessions at City Hall Park. All levels are welcome to join from beginner to advanced yogi, and all classes are family friendly.

Yoga in the Park session times

  • Session 1: 12-12:45 pm with a 15 minute break in between
  • Session 2: 1:00-1:45 pm

Feel free to roll out your own yoga mat or practice barefoot in the grass. The first 25 yogis in attendance at each session will receive some yoga swag including passes to the Breathing Room’s regular Yoga in the Park events throughout the summer. Water and sunscreen will be provided but please bring your own water bottle. In case the weather is not cooperative, both yoga sessions will be moved indoors at the Breathing Room.

Classroom lessons apply to real-life business entrepreneurs

Reading and writing and tax returns.

Those are the lessons to be learned at Aspen Heights Elementary School in Red Deer, where a school program puts business ownership and banking on the curriculum.

15068933_10154561601706675_2464717801338634217_oFor an hour three times a week, 224 students from kindergarten to Grade 5 trade their books and markers for market day, where they run their own businesses and government in a pint-sized version of the real world.

“They’re learning how to be good leaders and how to get the jobs done that they need to do,” says Allan Baile, co-ordinator of the Aspen Heights MicroSociety. (more…)
